GATHER for HER with Carlene Donnelly

Collaborative Learning and Unlearning For Transformational Changemaking

GATHER for HER | Carlene Donnelly

Collaborative Learning and Unlearning For Transformational Changemaking

Over the past several months we have had the opportunity to build a relationship with Carlene Donnelly, Executive Director of CUPS Calgary, and learn about the transformational change work she has been up to over the last 25 years as we work collaboratively to tell her local to global impact story. We look forward to welcoming Carlene to GATHER for HER for an open and honest, unscripted conversation about Collaborative Learning and Unlearning For Transformational Changemaking on October 6th, 2021 at 8:00 am PT/9:00 am MDT.

Carlene has spent the past 25 years as a senior leader in the social services sector and changemaker in the Calgary community. Since 2003, she has led CUPS through significant evolution and growth to radically improve outcomes for clients and simultaneously disrupt the expectation we have of what charities are capable of. Carlene has participated in multi-country, high-profile research and advocacy projects, and she shares her learnings with audiences around the globe.

Carlene believes in a science-informed approach to improving outcomes for Calgarians and passionately advocates for organizations to adopt a business framework and apply current brain science to achieve a larger impact. Under her leadership, CUPS has evolved from a traditional charity to a trailblazing, science-based social agency, capable of improving outcomes for Calgarians for generations to come. Her innovative approach using the practical application of business to increase the impact of the organization has yielded many significant advances.

"In my 20’s I recognized that at times when leadership was needed, no one stood up.  I remember thinking that I couldn’t wait for others to make the change – I had to be the change, so I did.  I'm not sure it was a calling but rather a realization that 'the somebody' who had to make that change could just as easily be me. "

GFH - Carlene-2

"Be the change, not just the critic."
