MMIWG+2S - On This Day We Pause To Remember

On This Day, WE Pause to Remember | Uncategorized Written by Charlene SanJenko

May 5 is known as Red Dress Day, this day marks the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-spirit people.

On this day, I pause to remember. On the other 364 days of the year, I commit to deliberate and intentional action towards our only priority of our generation, to heal.

  1. Stereotypes perpetuate injustice. We will continue to lift, amplify, and support Indigenous women. Be part of the solution: Stereotypes are learned and can be unlearned.
  2. Focusing on the problem won’t bring a solution. Let it fuel you but not rule you. Sharing stories of light and possibility help to raise awareness, dismantle barriers, inspire possibility.
  3. Prioritize healing. Hurt people hurt people. Every day in every way, prioritize healing for ourselves, for each other, and the planet.

It’s a privilege and a responsibility to take action. I am fuelled to do so daily for my cousin who lost her life at 46 years old in 2016.

I offer up prayers today for Glenda who mourns the loss of her daughter, a young nursing student found deceased on the morning of April 28th in Terrace, BC.

How many more reminders do we need?

How many more Sisters must we lose?

To our lost Sisters, you are not forgotten.
