The Art of Leadership, a Powerful, Positively Affirming Day! A Leadership Event Review by Performance Coach, Charlene SanJenko

artofleadershipOn April 11th, I had the opportunity to attend The Art of Leadership with Julia Chung, Strategic Wealth Planning Advisor, thanks to the Forum of Women Entrepreneurs (“FWE”) and complimentary tickets we were fortunate enough to win to the Vancouver event.  About a week earlier I had reviewed the agenda and strongly considered attending, so when I found out that I was a lucky winner, I was pretty excited.

The event was well-attended, and The Centre in Vancouver for Performing Arts appeared to be sold out.  I wasn’t surprised.  The line-up of speakers looked amazing, Whole Food’s John Mackey, Marcus Buckingham, Author of StandOut (also known for the StrengthFinders), new author Susan Cain, Telus’ Dan Pontefract and the entertaining Chester Elton.  It was sure to be an enlightening and energizing full day.  But as self-serving as this may sound, I wanted more.

I left the corporate world in 2000 to follow my entrepreneurial dreams.  Since that time I’ve been to a number of ‘enlightening and energizing’ personal and professional development events.  In fact, I’ve been to so many that I feel I’m waiting for [insert slight sarcastic tone here] the rest of the world to catch up.  What I was specifically looking and listening for at The Art of Leadership was confirmation that, in fact, is exactly what I got.

Over the past number of months I have participated in FWE’s mentoring program.  It has been an incredible experience which has helped me to refine both my company’s purpose and brand.  In fact, in October we will launch PowHERhouse in all her glory.  And what I heard at The Art of Leadership was that I am right on target.

  • Passion over profit;
  • Build community;
  • Create a conscious culture – and women seem to be slightly ahead of the game in this department.

PowHERhouse will invite female leaders to be a part of weaving a strong social fabric as we build a sisterhood of strong women. Our future, our children, and our community both locally and globally need powerful women, and PowHERhouse is responding to this need.

How?

  • By not only becoming stronger physically in order to sustain the lives we want to live;
  • But also by meeting other exceptional women who are courageously committed to helping you move forward in your life;
  • And enjoying events and opportunities that excite and motivate you in the company of high-caliber women.

A few years ago, one of my favourite mentors told me that my greatest strength was my ability to network and connect women. PowHERhouse is about creating connection and collaboration with a powerful purpose – to build female leaders, strengthen feminine energy and build a community of strong women – inside and out – ready to step into their highest purpose and make a difference in this world. The common thread is that they all commit to the necessity of being strong in order to do so.

Entrepreneurial impregnation started for me in July of 2000.  In October 2013, my child will be born.
