Reflective Thoughts from a Social Entrepreneur Fighting the War Against Obesity and Diabetes with The Only Way To Win – Lifestyle Management

I’m Charlene SanJenko and I’m a social entrepreneur and have been since 2000.

Many times when I tell people that I am a social entrepreneur their eyes glaze over just a wee bit.  A social entrepreneur is someone who is just as focused (or more) at making a positive difference in the world as they are about turning a profit.

Recently, at the 15th annual conference of the Canadian Diabetes Association, a statement was released linking excess body fat to the development of type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease and obstructive sleep apnea.  One local doctor, Alissa Zentner, who has specialized in the treatment of obesity for 10 years, comments “it’s time obesity, the disease that begins it all, is taken more seriously by the medical profession.” She adds, “With more than half of our population suffering from this disease, the task before us as a medical community is unprecedented,” she says. ”

Did you know that by the year 2020, one in three Canadians and one in two Americans will have diabetes or pre-diabetes?*

So what does that mean to this passionate social entrepreneur?  Simple.  The mission I accepted in 2000 was to help build stronger bodies, stronger lives and stronger communities by teaching winning lifestyle management solutions through effective eating, consistent exercise and a positive mindset to those ready to embark on the journey.  It’s been 13 years now.

2013_vibrancy-ad_230Loving every second of it.  I help strong women build strong bodies.  Together, we practice excellence in all areas of our lives equally.  Together, we are creating positive change in our families and communities – starting with ourselves.
