TED Talks-Style Women’s Series Kicks Off in Nanaimo, October 24
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PowHERhouse Performance Strategies is pleased to announce PowHERtalks! “Success boils down to how well you communicate with others, whether it’s two people or 200,” said PowHERhouse CEO Charlene SanJenko. “And it’s not only what is said, but how it’s said. PowHERtalks offers a platform and process that helps women develop a talk, practice it, and secure the support they need to confidently and concisely deliver it. Join us for one of our upcoming six events between October 2015 and May 2016.”
The PowHERtalks Speaker Series aims to connect 1,000+ women in six communities across Canada through an afternoon of creativity, confidence-building, inspiration and learning. Practice workshops will be held in each community prior to the speaking event and include the opportunity to create a 1-minute professional video (Nanaimo September 12th, Sechelt October 3rd – future dates to be announced).
“One of the greatest gifts women can give themselves is the opportunity to master public speaking, practice presentation skills and confidently ask for what they need in order to achieve their personal goals,” said SanJenko, a successful entrepreneur and Town Councillor for Gibsons, BC. “We believe women’s success in business situations can be hindered by the way they communicate to upper management, colleagues, and clients. That’s why we’re determined to help women with a mission to become more PowHERful speakers.”

- Nanaimo, October 24th: Vancouver Island Conference Centre
- Sechelt, November 14th: Chatelech Secondary School Theatre

The PowHERtalks Process
Much like committing to a 5k or 10k run, PowHERtalks encourages women to set a goal and provides a pathway to ‘train’ for it with a simple framework of tools, support, mentoring, motivation and inspiration – everything needed in order to develop a PowHERtalk.
At most speakers’ events, an audience member is a Receiver – they receive education, information and inspiration. At PowHERtalks each participant is a Player. A speaker shares her mission along with her “ask” – what she needs at this time to move her mission forward. This could be a referral or an introduction, mentoring or guidance, capital or access to an opportunity.
As a PowHERtalks audience member, each women’s role is to listen deeply and then consider how they might be able to help achieve a PowHERplay – a strong, competitive boost that transpires by pulling together our collective energy, wisdom and connections. “Moving women forward takes courage and action. This is an opportunity to go beyond inspiration and become a true catalyst (however big or small) for positive change,” SanJenko exclaims.
