For the past fourteen years, I have been helping clients to understand their basic metabolic needs and how to work with their macro-nutrient ratio to re-shape their bodies and revitalize their energy and passion for life. It’s time to Rev Up Your Metabolism! It’s nice to see that America is catching on.
This video from the University of California – The Skinny on Obesity – illustrates why I’ve always believed my work is of utmost importance and I continue to value the opportunity every day to do what I do.
The biggest thing to remember is to KEEP IT SIMPLE.
When I start working with a client, I educate them on their basic metabolic needs. Simply, as a guideline, I take their current bodyweight and add a zero to the end of it. That’s it. That’s the amount of calories you need per day in order for your body to function optimally. Just because you may want to lose weight doesn’t mean you slash those total calories… the calories don’t drop until your bodyweight begins to drop.
Now that doesn’t mean this client sits and counts calories. We’re all way too busy to be slaves to calorie-counting. However, I do have her journal about a week’s worth of typical eating so we can see the range of calories her body is currently used to and which macro-nutrients (proteins-carbs-fats) make up those calories.
For example, a woman weighing 150 pounds needs 1,500 calories per day in order for her body to function optimally. If her goal is to get down to 135 by losing 15 pounds of bodyfat, that doesn’t mean that we slash her calories to 1,350. It means that we review her macro-nutrient ratio (proteins – carbs – fats), help her clean up her diet, ensure she is exercising consistently and drinking enough water… and then we slowly start to decrease her calories as her bodies metabolic requirements decrease (as her weight decreases).
Most women don’t eat enough protein and eat way too many carbs. Their macro-nutrient ratio is out of whack. I work with them to educate them on this and help them to find ways to simply adjust it.
Over the past few years, I’ve been a simple yet effective framework that has been very successful, PowHERful Living Explored. It’s not a diet. Diets don’t work. It’s a lifestyle. A lifestyle that we’d better grab onto and get really excited about. Because according to the above video, we have no other choice. What makes this framework unique is that it extends beyond the typical 90-day fitness transformation. Together with a team of experts, we have created a 90-day transformation that promises to move you forward with your body, business and life goals. We want to help you grow stronger in all areas, and as women, we’re multi-facted creatures. Our next transformation begins June 15th, 2014!
