Engaging, Inspiring PowHERtalks Speaker Series Comes to Sechelt, BC
Innovative “100 x 100 PowHERfully” Campaign To Be Launched at Event
November 5, 2015 – The PowHERtalks Speaker Series, a uniquely empowering, all-female presentation series designed specifically to help committed, passionate women move their missions forward, is coming to Sechelt, BC on Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Ticket holders will enjoy an afternoon of creativity, confidence-building, inspiration and learning. The event will feature 18 brief but powerful presentations, a catered re-fueling break, a Nia energizer, an Exhibitors’ Lounge featuring local female entrepreneurs, pop-up retail booths for holiday shopping and a networking reception. A post-event Dinner & Socializer will be held at the Blue Ocean Grill for those who want to extend the estrogen-fueled experience.
Doors will open at noon and the event will get underway at 1:00pm, with each of the 18 female presenters speaking for nine minutes. During that time, they will talk to the audience about what is important to them, what they’ve learned, and the social impact they wish to make. They will also talk about what they need to advance their mission. This could be a referral or an introduction, mentoring or guidance, capital or access to an opportunity.
The audience, in return, is asked to listen deeply to each presentation and then consider how they might be able to help the speaker achieve a PowHERplay – a strong, competitive boost that transpires by pulling together the group’s collective energy, wisdom and connections. In this way, audience members are placed in the PowHERseat and given the opportunity to become a true catalyst for positive change.
“There are three key things women need to move their vision forward,” said Charlene SanJenko, CEO of PowHERhouse. “They need confidence, they need connections and they need access to capital. The PowHERtalks Speaker Series provides women with a very real way to access all three, so they can put some muscle behind their mission.”
SanJenko’s Speaker Series is also unique in that it helps half of the event’s speakers “train” for presentation day, with a simple framework of tools, support, mentoring, motivation and inspiration.
“One of the greatest gifts women can give themselves is the opportunity to master public speaking, practice presentation skills and confidently ask for what they need in order to achieve their personal goals,” said SanJenko, a successful entrepreneur and Town Councillor for Gibsons, BC. “We believe women’s success in business situations can be hindered by the way they communicate to upper management, colleagues, and clients. That’s why we’re determined to help women with a mission to become more PowHERful speakers.”
“Initiatives like PowHERtalks allow FortisBC to continue our commitment to investing in collaborative community partnerships and strong, vibrant communities,” comments Carmen Driechel, Community & Aboriginal Relations Manager, FortisBC. PowHERhouse is pleased to welcome community investment partner and event sponsor, FortisBC, along with the Sunshine Coast Credit Union, Capilano University and Community Futures Sunshine Coast.
PowHERhouse will also publicly announce their 100 x 100 PowHERfully give-back campaign at the Sechelt event. The concept behind this #WeCare-campaign is that, each quarter, 100 women will donate $100 each to a social cause that builds strong women and strong families, both locally and globally. The first recipient of this give-back campaign will be the Gibsons Public Market, located in Gibsons, BC. Throughout the month of November, SanJenko will be recruiting 100 women to join 100 x 100 PowHERfully. “The 100 x 100 PowHERfully campaign is an innovative way to bring women together with the purpose of building powerful communities; a goal at the heart of the Gibsons Public Market and Coastal Community Hub project,” said Pam Robertson, Capital Campaign Co-Chair. “We are grateful to be selected as the first recipient of this exciting campaign.” In January 2016, SanJenko will announce the recipient for the Winter 2016 quarter.
