Lee Malleau H&S resizedPowHERhouse is pleased to welcome Lee Malleau, Featured Guest Speaker, PowHERtalks Calgary on October 2, 2016.

Lee graduated in journalism and economics including a Fellowship in Economic Development from the University of Waterloo with her internationally accredited Ec.D. With a philosophy of continuous improvement, she has since added marketing, communications, management and project management to her formal education.

From a career as an award-winning journalist, she transitioned into economic and business development, and for 25 years has led community and business development, and marketing programs in both the public and private sectors—including projects with First Nations and impoverished communities.

Career successes include working with hundreds of entrepreneurs as well as major investment projects like Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, the Oceanfront Development Project in Squamish, the Olympic Oval project in Richmond and over 10 years delivering trade and investment results from global business missions—including establishing global best practices in the delivery of business programs during the Olympic Games.

In the lead-up to the Vancouver 2010 Games, Lee worked with the City of Richmond—Host City to the Long-track Speed Skating Oval to develop sponsorship, marketing and business development programs for the Oval and Live Site focusing explicitly on long-term legacy benefits for the community.

As CEO of Vancouver’s Economic Commission, Lee led the development and execution of the region’s Olympic Business Programs, resulting in hundreds of millions in economic benefit and new investment for small entrepreneurs and major multinationals. Lee’s team produced Vancouver’s first-ever Economic Action Strategy promoting increased prosperity in the local economy—including areas like the Downtown East side, business growth and productivity, global exports and trade, social entrepreneurship and the attraction of talent.

She is a founding director of the Consider Canada Cities Alliance—made up of the nation’s largest cities, and today is a speaker on leadership for women and social entrepreneurship, community and business development, and investment and trade. She has organized, emceed and moderated numerous events globally and nationally, including the first Global Cities Summit in Vancouver (2012).

In 2013 Lee returned to the private sector to launch her new company, m+a globalnomics—a multi-disciplined consultancy focusing on community and economic development, social entrepreneurship, marketing and communications, analytics and metrics, innovation and international trade.  Lee works with key partners across Canada and international to help local, national and global clients on achieve their socio-economic goals.

On a deeply personal level, community is everything. Lee participates regularly in a wide variety of volunteer and philanthropic activities, has served on multiple boards, is a Past-President of Rotary and of the Economic Development Association of British Columbia, and a former director at Economic Developers Association of Canada.  Currently she sits on a number of boards and committees, including cSPACE, and is especially passionate about the arts, social entrepreneurship and innovation, the elimination of poverty—especially for women and children, and the strengthening of human rights globally.
