Day 2: August 22, 2014 30-Day FIRMA Firm-Up Challenge

FIRMA capri’s and socks with a healthy breakfast, bring on the day!
After a light breakfast of a coconut whey Simply Bar and some fresh pineapple, Ben and I walked about 5 km this morning to our favourite little gym in Puerto Morelos on the only road that takes you from Puerto Morelos towards the main highway between Cancun and Playa. It’s a walk through the jungle – and yes, you do need to beware of crocodiles. When we arrived, we learned that the gym is closed for renovations until September 5th [smart folks closing a gym the last couple weeks of August :)]. I looked at Ben and said, “You up for a playground workout?” And so we did!
Adaptability is such an important skill whether it’s for your body, your business or another area in your life. However, it is only when you are solid in your fundamental beliefs that you can adapt with flexibility, fluidity and ease while staying grounded and ultimately true yourself.
With training, if you understand how to train your body and which movements work which muscles, you can perform those movements with free weights, machines or my personal favourite, your own bodyweight!
Much of the same can be said in business. It’s crucial for young leaders, up and coming professionals, female entrepreneurs and women in business to get really clear on their passion – WHY they do what they do. What is the essence of the experience you are looking to create for yourself and others? What is your Mission, and how have you defined success in your own terms rather than someone elses? Our Work is our contribution to this world and each other, and it is important that we find it fulfilling. That starts right here – with ourselves.
Since 2000, I have played out my role and continue to do so. I Build Strong Women. Over the years, the expression of this role has taken on many forms – personal training, women’s events, facilitation, public speaking, marketing & communications, business development, writing, community leadership, and digital media. The common thread remains and always will: I Build Strong Women.
Back to the workout – all in all we had a great 30-ish minute workout, and I managed to do the majority of mine in the shade of a large tree. Thank God for a light breeze which helped with the late morning heat of high 30’s. It felt good to have it done for the day, especially after so much sitting on yesterday’s flight.
It also felt good to know that no matter what, no matter where, there’s always an opportunity to move, strengthen and stretch your body.
After that… it was an afternoon by the pool!
