Dianne Whelan on the currency of kindness

"It is hard to believe my 6-year journey on the Trans Canada Trail has now been completed. And now begins the journey back home and back to community.  As I finished the last 20 minutes paddling to the shore, my heart was soft and open and tears filled my eyes. Not from the sadness that the journey was over, but from all the love and kindness that made this journey possible. And PowHERhouse and the women and local businesses who have come together over the years have been such a large part of that currency of kindness. I am looking forward to sharing an evening with you all where I can extend that gratitude in person."

Shelley McDade on celebrating 80 years of neighbours helping neighbours

"Dianne asks, “As a society, what have we forgotten?” As Sunshine Coast Credit Union celebrates 80 years of neighbours helping neighbours, we warmly welcome Dianne home and look forward to hearing the reminders that only a journey of 24,000 kilometres can reveal...
On October 3rd, we come together to celebrate the interconnectedness of community and continuous deepening of our understanding as leaders of impact in our society ~ past, present, and future ~ to lift society.  We all have a role to play."

Charlene SanJenko on Eight PowHERful Years of Impact

"It feels so great to come full-circle and celebrate our 8th Anniversary as internal and external changemakers, a 100% Indigenous-owned social impact organization in our home community on the Sunshine Coast. Surrounded by family and friends, we look forward to an afternoon of 'dance party' fun, fabulous food, fond memories, and - of course - precious friendships.
We hope you can join us!"

  1. […] On October 3rd, 2021, PowHERhouse officially welcomes home Dianne Whelan to her Sunshine Coast community. Six years ago, we launched her ecological and reconciliation pilgrimage along the Great Trail (the Trans Canada Trail) with an evening fundraiser that saw supporters and friends come together to raise $5,000 to help launch Whelan's 500 Days in the Wild expedition and documentary filmmaking project.
