PowHERful Musings: On Journaling and Gratitude

By:  Loralei Snider of Lost Arts Cafe, PowHERhouse Journaling & Mindfulness Editor

Have you ever heard the term, “You get out of things what you put into them.”? Well, I happen to believe that this is true for most things, including life. Shifting your perspective can make amazing things happen in your world. Yes, sometimes life can be tough, and it can be difficult to see the beauty that exists in our everyday lives. However, I have found that even on my most challenging days, finding just one thing that I am grateful for can turn my day around. You see, once I find that first thing that I am grateful for, a shift in my consciousness occurs, and it becomes easier to find more opportunities to express gratitude.

keepcalm and journal onThere are so many things that we can apply this to – from finding a parking space when we need it most, to being surprised by a kind gesture. When you exude an “attitude of gratitude,” you are given the opportunity to have a positive influence on the people you encounter. You see, just like the person with the “black cloud” hanging over their head can change the mood in a room, so can you with your “white cloud” of gratitude. This allows you, and everyone you interact with the opportunity to participate in a global shift in consciousness, as people’s moods and perspectives can be very infectious. Wow –  I’ll bet you never thought that being grateful for even just one little thing could have such an impact! And, when you spend time journaling about the things that you are grateful for, you strengthen that attitude of gratitude, and it becomes easier than ever to see the beauty in this world…

With that in mind, I ask you to take some time with your journal, and reflect upon the following journal prompt:

What is it that I am most grateful for in my life? How can I adopt an “attitude of gratitude”?
