GATHER for HER | Madeleine Shaw

Creating Social Change Through Generative Self-expression.

On November 3rd, we look forward to welcoming award-winning Social Entrepreneur, Speaker, Mentor, and Author of The Greater Good, Madeleine Shaw to GATHER for HER for a juicy conversation about creating social change through generative self-expression.

Madeleine lives, works, and plays on unceded Coast Salish territory. She is best known as the co-founder of Aisle (formerly Lunapads), one of the first groundbreaking ventures in the world to commercialize reusable menstrual products, today a thriving industry. In 2014, she founded G Day, a national event series for tween girls and their supporters, and in 2017 Nestworks, a family-friendly coworking community. In her first book, The Greater Good: Social Entrepreneurship for Everyday People Who Want to Change the World, she offers encouraging tips and reflections for aspiring impact-based entrepreneurs.

Social change leadership is Madeleine's deepest calling, in addition to being an artist, so writing a book about creating social change through entrepreneurship felt very natural to her. As a general principle, she loves growing things - projects, businesses, non-profits, relationships, plants, or ideas; they all share similar qualities of curiosity, creativity and nurturance. Madeleine believes that seeing our desire to create change as a deeply creative, generative act of self-expression may open metaphorical as well as physical doorways for us to walk more bravely in the world.

Would you like to be hands at Madeline's back? Here's HOW:

  • Read and share her book, The Greater Good, with others - there truly is something for everyone in it.

"If you have social change ideas that you have not yet acted on, ask yourself what might be holding you back, or what support you could ask for from your community to bring them to life."
