Finding Balance

Finding Balance | Inspire Me

I value quality outdoors time!

Finding balance in a busy life is no easy feat. “Finding balance” sounds like this fluffy, intangible euphoric place with no road map to get there. Speaking from personal experience, I find balance and the most fulfillment in life when ‘all the bases’ are covered. I get frustrated and resentful when one area of my life eats up all of my time, sucks up my energy and leaves the other areas high and dry.

Is finding balance then about time management? “Time management” – now there’s a phrase that makes you feel like you have to have a stop-watch out and your Google calendar set with alarms – and nobody wants to live like that.

Here’s my observation: We find time for what we most value. Is this then a value conversation? Think about it in your own life. Where do you spend most of your time and what value is it linked to. Let me give you the most common example: We work too much (and yes, I said ‘we’). Why do we work so much? Well, one of the values we hold close is that we want to provide for ourselves and our families. We want the security of knowing there will be ‘enough’.

Here’s how I approach this finding balance, time management, values challenge. I try to ensure that everyday I do a least a little bit of what’s MOST important to me. I keep it simple. It’s called my daily HIGH 5. These are my top priorities for the day that if they get accomplished I will feel most satisfied. They aren’t this laundry list of ‘To Do’ items – they are five top priorities in the various areas or compartments of my life and what I most value.

I share my HIGH 5’s on a daily basis with my network to keep me accountable and to encourage others to use the same system if it works for them. Give it a try. I’d love to hear from you and what you think about it. Follow my Fanpage to check out my daily High 5’s and share some of your own!
