Do you doodle?

By:  PowHERhouse Creativity Editor, Marlene Lowdendoodle2

When was the last time you doodled?  Did you hide what you were doing?

No need to keep it under wraps any longer!

Doodling is actually proven to help you relax allowing other ideas and solutions to come to mind AND it increases your ability to focus.

In her witty TED (6-minute) talk, Sunni Brown goes on to explain the benefits of doodling:

“Doodling is really to make spontaneous marks to help yourself think. That is why millions of people doodle. Here’s another interesting truth about the doodle: People who doodle when they’re exposed to verbal information retain more of that information than their non-doodling counterparts. We think doodling is something you do when you lose focus, but in reality, it is a preemptive measure to stop you from losing focus. Additionally, it has a profound effect on creative problem-solving and deep information processing.”

I find it a great way tool to help me listen to and absorb webinars.

leather boundHaven’t doodled for a while… here is a great way to start:

You will need a pen, pencil or marker & paper, napkin or old pair of jeans (remember?).  Need a doodling tool? One of our #powHERhouse peeps, Loralei Snider of Lost Arts Cafe, makes some amazing hand-made journals that are sure to inspire!  Ask about #powHERhouse peeps special pricing!

Create a circle, split in roughly down the middle and begin to fill it in with lines, dots, swirls, dashes, it doesn’t really matter, just let it flow.

Please share to inspire others!

A few things I am excited to share with you this month:

Here’s a link to my latest blog post and latest work, the edge

I am ecstatic to be the Feature Artist at the Landing in September as well as Our Forest, a collaborative art show in our community.

Finally, I am very pleased to be collaborating and supporting fellow #powHERhouse peep, Malene Grotian, in her upcoming fundraiser – Full Circle – on Tuesday evening, September 16th.   I will have silent auction items, including a painting!  Full Circle is a great opportunity for us to dress up, see Malene’s new line for fall, and all for a great cause.

This is a friendship that has developed as a direct result of PowHERhouse!
