Day 3 Theme:  CRUSH IT! | Personal Responsibility

Question for today:

What if every person in the world held a true sense of personal accountability?

Today's Action Statement:  Own it!

“The moment you take responsibility for everything in your life is the moment you can change anything in your life.” Hal Elrod

Watch my video below for my thoughts on personal responsibility and owning it to create the life we say we want.

Words of wisdom from Kathy McCrum, our PowHERcircle Day 3 guest:

"We likely all remember our parents trying to teach us the importance of owning up to our actions. To be truthful. I can hear my Mom now … “Kathy, are you sure you are telling the truth? You know that nobody likes liars…. You will be in far less trouble for owning up to what you did, than being untruthful.”

It is so interesting that years later this simple statement is so relevant.

In my role at work and at home, I literally deal with personal accountability every single day. It fascinates me how the behaviours of some can be so very different than that of others. And that in every single case or situation I manage, when there is a true sense of personal accountability everyone wins."

What is personal accountability anyway?  My simple definition:

  1. Admit it to own it!
  2. Learn from it.
  3. And (for the love of Pete) – MOVE ON!

"I feel refreshed when I think of situations where the above steps took place both for myself, and for others going through sticky situations. In my experience, in every situation where someone accepts personal accountability, it diminishes the actual root of why the accountability was necessary. Not to mention the sheer time and money it saves.

Finally, as humans we are constantly growing in a world where none of us are perfect. We must take advantage of every situation to become better people.

Learning from our mistakes and having the ability to move forward is a critical part of being accountable."

Why is this important?

"If we all held ourselves personally accountable, there would be little reason for court battles, less crimes committed, and far less marriage or relationship breakdowns. Stop for a moment and think about all of the energy that is consumed when someone does not hold themselves accountable.

More importantly, think of the people - the animals, the environment that gets needlessly hurt."
